Housekeeping – difficulties again

I really don’t know what it is but there are problems galore with my net connection, WordPress comments facility and the old problems on my computer.

Comments – I’m still fishing your comments out of spam and not always getting them.  The anti-spam acknowledges that it has falsely spammed 52 comments so far in November, compared to 13 for all of October and an average of 2 or 3 before that.  On the other hand, missed spam was 65 for October and 0 for November.

So there has been a seismic shift in spamming anything which moves and I don’t know how to reset it or reteach it.  With great respect to readers, I’d prefer that than if it was letting all sorts of spam through.

However, if you glance at the number of spams for October and this part of November, you’ll get an idea what’s involved in me having to physically go through every spam comment to see if your comments are in there.  It’s added minutes to each sortie in and an extra hour all up for the day.

This seems to have been accompanied by a vast increase in hits over the past week.

Net service – today, I’ve lost net connection four times.  Each time, it redirects me to BT but when there, does not let me login, due to no net connection.  I reset the hub three times and each time got the broadband back, then on the last one, phoned BT.

To be fair, BT picked up the phone fairly quickly but just before the customer service agent took the receiver, BT gave an announcement that they’d had a massive problem today.  It took me five minutes to convince the man that the problem was BT’s, which is a relief because I’d been sure it was my computer’s.  He asked me to tell him what BT was saying prior to the CSA taking the phone.

Moving on, it’s working for now but if strange things happen, I think you’ll know what’s going on.

    5 minutes to convince BT it’s their end, that must be a record.

    Took me 10 calls, 2 weeks and 4 visits.

    And i’m still only getting 1.5 bit instead of my old 4 (course i’m paying for 20,but then so is everyone else)

    I’ll be dumping them as soon as my contract runs out.

    I’ve heard nothing but negatives about BT from everyone. Put another way, I’ve never heard one good thing said.

    Now maybe I’m judging it against the unreal situation in Russia vis-a-vis modems and cable [perhaps it’s improved] but I’ve not had too bad a run. BT rip you off but the speed has been OK.

    This was not good today though. I have Option 2, by the way.

    Well, what i found funny was that both the BT engineers that visited (2 engineers visited twice each) both told me they were on virgin.

    Says a lot really.

    Funny that you’ve also had a problem when my friend in Manchester has had the same problem. Has anything been changed at the exchange or have you been offered an upgrade or something?

    I’m with a small ISP recommended on a forum where techies and engineers said it was good.

    Can’t fault them at all. Very reliable, don’t disconnect me from the net like some services do when overloaded and you can actually speak to a real person in the UK on a real phone number not an 0870 etc.

    Only thing I get from BT is phone. On option 3 so less than £17 incl per month (though paperless and online account only). All calls, 24/7, including 0845 and 0870. Mobiles I only ring from my mobile.
