    I thought their early rock-and-roll numbers were rubbish – Twist and Shout, She Loves You, and so on. But later stuff like this, and Get Back for instance, were good stuff. They really improved over a few years, didn’t they? But then they were just about the only good pop music since the collapse of the swing bands.

    I agree with dearieme; some of their early stuff was just typical pop-rock. It was in their later stuff that they started getting more variety and maturity to their writing.
