I picked up this fabulous little book called “i before e, except after c” and it has all those old mnemonics that were taught in the last century and earlier, from the days when children actually received a good education and were taught by teachers with some sort of literacy and numeracy, rather than ideology.

Much of it is grammatical and concerned with word usage, as you’d expect in a book on English but there is sufficient of general interest to make into a mini-series here and thus we start this evening with:

Conjunctions:  For, And, Nor, But Or, Yet, So.

Welshcakes, it’s not referring to your and my teacher training – it’s referring to today in the Anglo-Saxon west. It’s well documented.
