The other day, I wrote about a studythat attempted to explain why conservative white men (CWM) are so loathe to accept the threat of climate change. It has to do with system justification and identity-protective cognition. Go read it!
The question remains: What should we do about it? The denialism or indifference of CWM toward climate is a huge barrier to getting anything done. In this post, I’m going to argue that the typical strategies are doomed to failure. It may be that the simplest, least clever strategy — kick their asses — is still the way to go.
The comments make for pretty depressing reading with ‘ProgressiveSocialist’ leading the way. It’s worth reading his in full because it seems to perfectly encapsulate the thinking of the green/progressive/left.
“Is not global governance necessary to achieve the goal of saving our fragile planet? In order for us to be truly effective in reducing carbon, we need to implement a carbon tax at a rate prohibitively expensive for the criminal corporations to pay, ultimately forcing them out of business. The state will then be able to take over all power production with entirely sustainable sources such as solar and wind. When all power is derived from wind and solar, only then will we be carbon neutral. The environment must be saved at all costs, including the abusive free market economy.
A massive carbon tax is only the beginning of what needs to done and what is being done by progressives world wide.
On November 13th 2010, Dr. Ottmar Edenhofer, U.N. International Panel on Climate Change Lead author stated: “We redistribute de facto the world’s wealth by climate policy… One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy. This has almost nothing to do with environmental policy anymore.”
A carbon tax is only the first step toward the goals set by the U.N. IPCC as stated by its brave lead author Dr. Ottmar Edenhofer.
Convincing the CWMs is impossible, their sense of freedom is too strong to delude them into our vision. The only way to implement the necessary changes to halt the Anthropogenic Climate Destabilization Crisis and end the free market is by more aggressive means. We have to dismantle the system that enables them to destroy the environment from the very ground up. That means doing away with the archaic, inefficient, and exasperating constitution. That means re-educating the children with the state as their surrogate parent, barring the family from swaying them away from our cause. That means prohibiting the rabid Christians from polluting society with their climate denying, racist, homophobic poison and doing away with Judeo-Christian values in lieu of moral relativity. This will allow us to justify any means to save our planet from the deniers and corporate robber barons.”
Incredible.
That means doing away with the archaic, inefficient, and exasperating constitution.
