Quand Bismarck chantait la Marseillaise

Your French may be a little rusty but you’ll still catch the drift here:

C’est une découverte sensationnelle : le seul et unique enregistrement de la voix de Otto von Bismarck, chancelier allemand à la fin du XIXème siècle. Avec une surprise de taille pour l’auditeur, quand le vainqueur de Sedan se met à réciter l’hymne français …

Who’dathunkit?

Methinks you are writing under a false flag laddie.
Such perfect colour rendition, such amazing sound, all from that old wax cylinder. Remarkable.
Casablanca’s Marseillaise is quite old and crackly now, but it brings tears to the eyes, which Bismarck’s (modern) version doesn’t do.
The Bismarck version will become the EU standard version but perhaps Bogart’s version is the real reason for the existence of the EU at all.

There’s a post in this. I’m a Europhile but an EUphobe. Unfortunately, the two have been conflated in the argument. It’s quite possible to love many aspects of other countries and their people and still be patriotic to one’s own.
