From This is True:
As a busload of tourists returned from an excursion into the volcanic canyon Eldgja in southern Iceland, the bus driver was horrified to discover one of his passengers was missing.
He quickly called authorities, who set up a search. Even the other passengers chipped in, looking for the woman, described as “Asian, about 160cm, in dark clothing and speaks English well.”
It wasn’t until 3:00 a.m. when one of the passengers helping to look for the missing woman told police she thought she was the subject of the search herself: she had changed clothes during the hike.
It was only then that the driver thought to count the passengers, and all were indeed present. The woman “had no idea that she was missing,” noted Hvolsvollur police chief Sveinn K. Runarsson.
…You’d think someone would have had the decency to tell her. (RC/Iceland Review, Reykjavik Grapevine)
