The fundamental interconnectedness of the web

For those who could be bothered, Ken Craggs presents a flurry of facts which appear to be disparate, unconnected but look more closely:

#  Chair of Nominet, ‘Baroness Rennie Fritchie  of Common Purpose pops up at the Parliament & Internet Conference, as does Chloe Smith of Paxman infamy.

#  Baroness Fritchie works closely with inventor of the web Sir Tim Berners-Lee, (a Professor at MIT and Southampton University) W3C, and the Tetherless World Constellation in helping to develop the open government data initiatives, and the Semantic Web and Internet of Things to develop a global system of total information awareness.

#  TIA was referred to on the old blog.  Look at the interconnection of groups and individuals within those groups. An example is Demos, a non-governmental think-tank, according to themselves.

Demos trustees brought together Sir Douglas Hague (former adviser to Margaret Thatcher), Jan Hall (Chief Executive of the advertising agency Gold Greenlees Trott), Martin Jacques (Co-founder of Demos, former editor of Marxism Today), Julia Middleton (Chief Executive of Common Purpose), The Royal Institute of International Affairs, The RAND Corporation, The International Institute for Strategic Studies, The Hudson Institute (founded by Herman Khan – model for Kubrick’s Dr Strangelove), The Heritage Foundation, The Centre for Policy Studies, The Institute of Economic Affairs, The Aspen Institute, The Adam Smith Institute and so on…

#  The founder and Director of Demos was Geoff Mulgan.

A Cabinet Office news release of 1/9/00 announced the appointment of Mulgan as Director of the ‘Performance and Innovation Unit’ (PIU):

“The PIU’s aim is to improve the capacity of Government to address strategic, cross-cutting issues and to promote innovation in the development and delivery of policy and in the delivery of the Government’s objectives. The Unit reports direct to the Prime Minister through Sir Richard Wilson.”

#  So Demos was non-governmental? Technically, yes.

“Mulgan worked from 1997 as a Special Adviser to the Prime Minister on social policy issues…responsible for social exclusion, welfare to work, family, urban, voluntary sector and other issues…

#  Geoff Mulgan chaired the Advisory Council alongside Martin Taylor, a steering group member of the Bilderberg group. Mulgan’s views on policy possibilities:

We now live in a world in which fantasy and reality are hard if not impossible to distinguish. Information is the raw material of both fact and fantasy, and has been so industrialised that its origins are rarely visible. Now it can be manufactured, twisted, multiplied and disseminated almost without limit.

Assisted by the power of computing, it can be created as if from nothing: tailor made to cognitive needs, put together as pastiche or copy. It needs only minimal reference points. The links between it and an objective reality – the claim of positivism and enlightenment – are ever more tenuous. As a result for the receiver there are few grounds for judgement, apart from received authority or limited experience.

#  Blog commenter Simon, on 07 November 2007 [my old blog], noted this about another Demos member, Julia Middleton:

In her book Beyond Authority, Middleton argues for a leadership style that enables [Common Purpose graduates] to lead beyond the traditional boundaries and constraints of their organizations. This of course means beyond the constraints of democratic accountability, whether at local or national level.

As Peter Mandelson, former Communist and European Commissioner put it in March 1998: “It may be that the era of pure representative democracy is slowly coming to an end.”

#  Demos and the officially unconnected other bodies emanating from the policy thrust became very interested in Semantic Web:

For instance, text-analyzing techniques can now be easily bypassed by using other words, metaphors for instance, or by using images in place of words. An advanced implementation of the semantic web would make it much easier for governments to control the viewing and creation of online information, as this information would be much easier for an automated content-blocking machine to understand.

In addition, the issue has also been raised that, with the use of FOAF files and Geolocation meta-data, there would be very little anonymity associated with the authorship of articles on things such as a personal blog.

#  The web gurus became involved in this as well:

But at present there is no easy way to take into account the policies that govern the use of information, some of which could be sensitive health data, said Nigel Shadbolt, professor of artificial intelligence at the University of Southampton and the incoming president of the British Computer Society.

#  One initiative to provide better data transfer has been John Poindexter’s TIA [note the logo in the top left corner of this post and see if you notice anything interesting in the design and choice of colouring]:

Total Information Awareness – a prototype system — is our answer. We must be able to detect, classify, identify, and track terrorists so that we may understand their plans and act to prevent them from being executed. To protect our rights, we must ensure that our systems track the terrorists, and those that mean us harm. [ h/t Ian PJ]

#  John Poindexter was Vice President of Syntek Technologies, a government contractor. Syntek and Poindexter worked for years with DARPA to develop Genoa, a surveillance device that’s a combination cutting-edge search engine, sophisticated information harvesting program”, and a “peer-to-peer” file sharing system. Kind of a military-grade Google/Napster for use in instant analysis of electronic data.

The result: Facebook.   Back to Ken:

#  “Sir Brandon Gough was Chancellor of the University of East Anglia (UEA) and was Chair of the Common Purpose Charitable Trust. The email controversy at the University of East Anglia‘s Climatic Research Unit. (CRU) began in November 2009 and became known as “Climategate“).

#  An independent review headed by Common Purpose stooge Sir Muir Russel cleared climate scientists of accusations that they fudged their results and silenced critics to bolster the case for man-made global warming. Sir Russell Muir (a layman) is Chairman of the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland (JAB).

#  The Law Society of Scotland in its members’ magazine Journal was critical that the appointment of laymen as opposed to lawyers as Chairman is “Unique in Europe”. The JAB has statutory responsibilities under the Judiciary and Courts (Scotland) act 2008. The Board’s role is to make recommendations to Ministers for appointment to the office of judge, sheriff principal, sheriff, and part-time sheriff as well as other judicial offices set out in the Act.”

#  “David Cameron, Nick Clegg, and Gordon Brown are Common Purpose graduates. Consecutive Labour and Conservative governments in the UK have been handing power over to the EU for years through use of ‘Henry VIII clauses’, a practice that still continues. (See: House of Commons debates, 18 May 2011: Column 458.)

#  More info at about Henry VIII clauses at Statutory Instruments UK. Also see: Gordon Brown’s New World Order Speech, the All-Party Parliamentary Group for World Government, and the One World Trust.”

#  “Lord Adair Turner: who is on the Bank of England Court of Directors, Chairman of the Financial Services Authority (FSA), Chairman of the Committee on Climate Change, and was Chair of the Economic & Social Research Council, Vice Chairman of Britain in Europe and a member of the Policy Advisory Board of the Social Market Foundation. “

#  “Stephen Heintz, President of the Rockerfeller Brothers Fund in the U.S. was the founding president of Demos (U.S. Think Tank), an organisation of which he is currently board chair. The History section of Demos informs us that Barack Obama was recruited to Demos when he was a state senator in Illinois.”

Pause for breath.

Here we go again:

#  On 6 February 2002, the official website of the UK Prime Minister announced, “Dame Rennie Fritchie re-appointed as Commissioner for Public Appointments.” In the following minutes (Number: 716), dated 23 May 2002, Julia Middleton, CEO of Common Purpose, states that she is working for Dame Rennie. This gives Julia Middleton a great deal of influence in appointing suitable Common Purpose graduates, to key leadership positions throughout the public sector, in an effort to ensure that EU legislation is implemented and adhered to, so that the EU encroachment into the UK runs as smoothly as possible.

Parliament UK: Select Committee on Public Administration, Minutes of Evidence. Examination of Witnesses, THURSDAY 23 MAY 2002 JULIA MIDDLETON AND AMELIA SUSSMAN.

#  The W3C office for UK and Ireland is hosted by Nominet.

Julia Middleton, has founded or helped in the founding of the Media Standards TrustDEMOSThe Good Governance Network, Impetus Trust, and Alfanar. Julia is also on the board of the Orwell Prize and was an editor of the magazine ‘Marxism Today’.

#  “The organisations coordinating IoT development include Auto-ID Labs; the ‘Internet Engineering Task Force’ (IETF); the ‘United Nations International Telecommunications Union’ (ITU); and the ‘World Wide Web Consortium’ (W3C). Wuxi-Sensing in China is leading the IoT international standardization…

#  W3C was founded by the inventor of the World-Wide Web Tim Berners-Lee, with support from the European Commission and DARPA.

#  Tim Berners-Lee leads the global collaboration on Semantic Web development and is also a member of [Tetherless World] TW.” Deborah McGuinees who worked on the CALO project is also a member of TW..”

Tim Berners-Lee is also a member of the ‘Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as is Vint Cerf, the so-called ‘father of the Internet’.

#  In 2007 the MacArthur Foundation awarded a grant of $350,000 to the Media Standards Trust and the Web Science Research Initiative to develop their plans for authenticating news on the web. The board of trustees of the Media Standards Trust include Julia Middleton (Common Purpose), Sir David Bell (Common Purpose) and Anthony Salz, the executive vice chairman of Rothschild. You may also be interested to know that in 1995 Lady de Rothschild pioneered the broadband wireless industry.

#  The Technology Strategy Board is overseeing the setting-up of the ‘Internet of Things’ in the UK.   Ken got information about the ‘Internet of Things’ featuring in the Parliament & Internet Conference (Oct 25th 2012) from a tweet by Maurizio Pilu who is lead Technologist at the UK’s Technology Strategy Board – Rennie Fritchie can be found on the agenda at 16.20 pm.

#  The U.S. Alliance for Telecomunications Indusry Solutions (ATIS) is a founding partner of oneM2M (see p.5) and a major U.S. contibutor to the U.N. Internations Telecommunications Union (ITU).

#  OneM2M is ‘Unifying the Internet of Things‘ and Huawei and ZTE are members of oneM2M.

#  U.S. cybersecurity strategist Donald “Andy” Purdy has joined Huawei and the U.S. government have reportedly voiced concerns that Huawei are spying for the chinese government, while at the same time being well aware that  Huawei & ZTE are members of the IETF and ATIS.

#  Huawei is a major supplier to BT’s on going multi-billion pound 21st Century Network (21CN), leading to so-called concerns that the UK telecom system could be vunerable to chinese attack.

John Sufflok, the former UK government CIO & CISO (2006-2011) is now Huawei’s global head of cybersecurity.

#  Huawei & ZTE are also closely linked to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) – see Partnet Affiliation for Huawei & ZTE on the oneM2M website.

#  Also see here,, here and here.

#  ATIS was a founding member of oneM2M.

#  Wuxi-Sensing in China is leading the IoT international standardisation and Huawei & ZTE appear to be upgrading telecom systems in various countries to IoT standards.

Any countries such as the U.S. Canada & Australia where citizens are suspicious of Huawei & ZTE can have their national telecom system(s) upgraded by one or more other telecom companies at oneM2M in an effort to lull citizens into a false sense of security.

The sensors/devices/components used by other companies would be more or less the same as those that Huawei or ZTE would use to upgrade telecom systems, i.e. they would be to IoT standards and interoperable so that sensors/devices/components can communicate and share data with each other.

#  In December 2012 the ITU (of which ATIS is a major contributing member) is having a WorldConference on International Telecommunications (WCIT) and it is believed by many that the ITU is going to try and take-over the Internet at some point after the conference.

We know that Them are making various moves, as above, to control the web and the strategy os to run all these important conferences to “decide” on the future of the web.   This is not unlike Middleton’s strategy of calling together the Scottish Arts Council to map out strategies for art in Scotland.   I wonder if the struggling artist was aware that that was being done on his behalf.

He might wonder just who appointed these people and gave them that brief.

Wow! Thank you for working all this out, James. A veritable rats’ nest of incestuous corruption, mendacity and fraud.

Ken Craggs is the one who worked it out. I’ve come at it too from different directions but it comes to the same people eventually. I had an email from someone familiar with some of those names too and naturally, not many can afford to be known.

The state is in such a rotten state.

In 1995 Lady de Rothschild pioneered the broadband wireless industry. “She began by winning US government licences to ride on the back of unused radio spectrum in four major U.S. cities. The idea was to use high-frequency radio to transmit video-on-demand or broadband internet applications, cutting out the need to lay cable.” According to the U.N. Broadband Commission, ‘Broadband drives the Internet of Things’.

In this Guardian article, Sir Tim Berners-Lee urges government to stop the snooping bill
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/apr/17/tim-berners-lee-monitoring-internet

Sir Tim Berners-Lee both founded and is the Director of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which develops interoperable technologies (specifications, guidelines, software, and tools)
    http://www.www2011india.com/proceeding/proceedings/p3.pdf

Both W3C & the IETF are producing the Specifications/Standards that will enable objects/devices to be interoperable, snoop on people, and communicate/share that data/info.

If Sir Tim Berners-Lee is so passionate about keeping the web ‘open’, would he really name a software tool he put together the ‘Closed World Machine’ ? http://www.w3.org/2001/sw/wiki/CWMhttp://infomesh.net/2001/cwm/
