2nd Amendment – and another thing

A little math should help put things in perspective for those who are convinced that the gun owners of America can’t possibly stand up to the military might that is under the control of the federal government:

In November a record 2 million guns were sold in America.  This was followed up by another record in December.  2.7 million guns were sold in America in the last month of 2012…. There are 2.29 active members in the Chinese Army. There are 1.13 active members in the Indian Army.

The U.S. Army has 561,984 active personnel.  Keep in mind that 600,000 men armed with rifles were sufficient to dissuade the 16 million-strong German Heer from attacking Switzerland.

Are all of those 4.7 million new guns bought by people willing to kill in order to protect their God-given liberties?  No.  But many, perhaps even most, were.  And that is why the current media drums being pounded for gun control are going to dwindle away to silence again soon.

This one is doing the rounds. Happy to help out the 2nd Amendment boys and girls:

1. “Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not.”

~Thomas Jefferson

2. “Those who trade liberty for security have neither.” ~ John Adams

3. Free men do not ask permission to bear arms.

4. An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.

5. Only a government that is afraid of its citizens tries to control them.

6. Gun control is not about guns; it’s about control.

7. You only have the rights you are willing to fight for.

8. Know guns, know peace, know safety.

No guns, no peace, no safety.

9. You don’t shoot to kill; you shoot to stay alive.

10. Assault is a behavior, not a device.

11. 64,999,987 firearms owners killed no one yesterday.

12. The United States Constitution (c) 1791. All Rights Reserved.

13. The Second Amendment is in place in case the politicians ignore the others.

14. What part of ‘shall not be infringed’ do you NOT understand?

15. Guns have only two enemies; rust and politicians.

16. When you remove the people’s right to bear arms, you create slaves.

17. The American Revolution would never have happened with gun control.

“4. An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.” Jefferson’s draft of the Declaration of Independence referred to subjects: he changed it to citizens only at the last minute when he saw an opportunity for propaganda on the issue. It’s impressive how that sort of propaganda stunt can still be effective after a couple of centuries.

“Only a government that is afraid of its citizens tries to control them.”

I thought you people wanted governments to be afraid of their citizens — “when the government fears the people, there is liberty”; “governments should be afraid of their people”; etc.

I wonder what Jesus would think of that list?

-it looks like an appendix to the Jefferson Bible (Jefferson was not a Christian)

Gun control won’t work in the US and they know it. If it was that urgent Obama could have issued an executive order but hasn’t, giving plenty of time for more guns and ammo to be bought. There is some noise on the ‘net of using next Monday 21st because of it’s connection with Martin Luther King. But as he was well known to carry a gun it may backfire, if you’ll excuse the pun.

And now you can just ‘print’ a gun anyway.

Australia had a Guvmunt gun-take a while back. But now there are more guns in Oz than there were before.

Detroit and I are big fans of the Second Amendment (and Detroit is a hunter as well), as long as they are responsible gun owners – and therein lies the problem – everyone ‘thinks’ they’re a responsible gunowner 🙂

In fact, most likely the Sandy Hook shooter’s mother considered herself a responsible gun owner – right up until she was killed by her own guns, at the hands of her son.

As a result, Detroit and I have decided that if we are truly responsible gun owners, then we have no problem proving it, by complying with whatever regulations are put into place:)

But frankly, Obama hasn’t even spoken himself, on what his plan is, this is all just media speculation – so can we all at least let him speak before we shoot him? 😉

I think whatever side of the fence people are on, we can all agree, something needs to change, after Sandy Hook.

As my grandfather always said “Don’t complain unless you have an alternative solution”.

    Does anyone have any? 🙂

    I sure don’t.

However, after watching a Star Trek Marathon and “setting phasers to stun”, this weekend, I had an idea. (Yes, we’ve established we’re big nerds).

So if the biggest reason people want guns is for home security, why don’t more people by Tasers?

They’re cheaper, and though can be just as dangerous, issues of self-defense will come into question less often, as the intent is to incapacitate, not kill.

Rossa – Just an FYI for you, but an Executive Order can only be issued by the President during wartime, except under specific circumstances (I didn’t know that either until a news commenter drew my attention to it:)

JD – I don’t think Jesus expected anyone to be a martyr but himself 🙂
