It’s not the message so much – it’s the mindset and the manner

It’s 3.37 out of your life but heh, Rossa sends this and suggests I be careful not to spill the coffee over the vid. I’m not sure if the vidmaker and writer are the same – I have issues with both:

OK, first reaction is deep annoyance that this guy is trying to pull a fast one by removing the usual youtube accessibility in order to embed in posts. He’s trying to make it seem to the unitiated that it’s his personal vid system which it’s not – it’s just a bloody youtube.

Second reaction is by 30 seconds. It’s deeply annoying in its assumptions and manner.

Third reaction is by one minute and I can’t stand it any more. The guy is a raging greenie, leftie, get-it-all-wrong, do-gooding idiot. But let not my words be the last on it.

Over at OoL, commenter Nick wrote:

Amazing really. Both the US and Europe are ‘managed’ by opinionated self important utterly incompetent cretinous whelps and both are massively indebted, near bankrupt and structurally corrupt and both adore producing crap like the above.
Why have we let these people do so much damage?

He was writing of the Obamas et al but it does apply in this case too. Which brings me to:

Fourth reaction – the guy’s utter smugness and false assumptions. Don’t get me wrong – I’m just as green in a way, along Chekhov lines:

Oh, I don’t object, of course, to cutting wood from necessity, but why destroy the forests? The woods of Russia are trembling under the blows of the axe. Millions of trees have perished. The homes of the wild animals and birds have been desolated; the rivers are shrinking, and many beautiful landscapes are gone forever. And why? Because men are too lazy and stupid to stoop down and pick up their fuel from the ground.

… and:

“Man has been endowed with reason, with the power to create, so that he can add to what he’s been given. But up to now he hasn’t been a creator, only a destroyer. Forests keep disappearing, rivers dry up, wild life’s become extinct, the climate’s ruined and the land grows poorer and uglier every day.”

For a start, it’s not every man or woman – it is certain men and women, in particular those referred to at this site as Them.

Then, as Astrov said, there’s nothing wrong with using wood, just not wasting it on pointless things. There’s nothing wrong with clearing an area of forest to build a house or to create a factory – it’s all in the attitude of rapacity.

You might say that what the guy in the vid was saying is about the same as Chekhov. Sigh – in a way, yes but the way Chekhov puts it makes one stop and think for a moment. The way that guy’s vid ran, it was nauseating.

It must come back to the attitude of smug utter conviction he’s right. Astrov was convinced he was right too, you’re convinced you’re right, I am too but we’ll still listen to each other. I won’t listen to anything any more this guy in the vid says.

Which is a pity because the general principle is not far away from being true. It’s the people saying it I can’t stand. Is there something wrong with me or is ther something wrong with them?

As you say, it’s not the message but the way in which it is delivered.

Here is another message and it makes you think and realise how we arrived at where we are now –

One of the greatest songs ever.

I enjoyed both videos, the original one, and that linked by JD .
Depends whether you like your medicine sugar-coated or straight, I guess. I can accept medicine both ways – either way it’s good to wake up as many people as possible with a hefty dose.

The first video brought to mind the movie Idiocracy

Thought you might enjoy the first one, Twilight.

The problem I see is that the message is grossly exaggerated, which works if it’s done with style and a smile. This is more the Dave Spart school of production values.

Would the video have been called “Man” if it had starred a green activist instead? I think not.

The immediate thought that sprung to my mind was ‘We come in peace, shoot to kill’.

The first one omits half of humanity. Let’s have a bit of equal representation here. Such messages should have a ‘quota’.

It is propaganda and cherry picks/distorts real issues for effect, like an inconvienient “truth”, It becomes a lie.

The really annoying thing about this is that it is right but only tells half of the story. If we didn’t have to rent the means of exchange at such a crippling cost we would not have to produce so much to earn a crust and use up so much of the natural resources.Investigating Bernays and his ilk it becomes apparent that the mass consumption society was deliberately created. My understanding gives up at this point,I just can’t see WHY.
