The chemical Juglone occurs naturally in the leaves, roots, and bark of plants in the walnut family (Juglandaceae). Juglone prevents many weed seeds germinating under the canopy of walnut trees and stunts the growth of other plants growing under or very close to the canopy. This reduces competition from other plants for water and nutrients in the root zone.

There was a rose bed very close to a walnut tree at Kirkley Hall, Ponteland, when I studied Horticulture there in the late 70’s. The roses furthest away from the walnut tree were much bigger than the roses closest to the tree. The stunting effect was attributed to Juglone and the rose bed was relocated.

We once looked at buying a house which had a walnut tree. The owner looked on it as a great asset: he claimed to collect the nuts and sell them to a greengrocer.

There’s a walnut tree on a patch of grass near a local medical centre: we’ve seen a mother and child out collecting the nuts. At least it’s a clean business, unlike gathering mulberries (which aren’t really delicious enough to justify the fuss and mess).

We have a hazel but usually the squirrels steal all the crop. One winter we found they’d paid compensation by burying walnuts in the compost in some pots in the back garden.

Advice to someone contemplating buying a jar of walnut butter: don’t.

Is Love Racist? The Dating Game:
This programme was on Channel 4 last night and takes a look at racism in Britain via the world of dating websites, love apps, and a national survey suggesting that young Britons could be more segregated than ever. One of the conclusions is that white brits aged 18-24 are the most racist and most are only willing to date those who are also white.

#2: it’s remarkable that King’s presumably is happy that many alumni will now change their wills to deny the college a bequest.

many alumni will now change their wills to deny the college a bequest.

Unfortunately I doubt that will happen. They’d be terrified of being exposed as hateful racist bigots.

It’s the ruling class, the sort of people who are alumni of this college, who have taken the wrecking ball to Britain. It would be naïve to expect them to do anything to stop the destruction.

The next step will be removing the name of the college, as the term “King’s” denotes a social level which is anathema to the SJWs. How long will it be before the college is renamed “Comrades College” or something similar?
I just can’t understand why the relevant people don’t tell these single issue, tunnel visioned, cretins that if they don’t like the busts of the founders of the college then go to some other, inferior, place. These people will never be satisfied and will continue to spread their demands until any form of disagreement will be banned.
