Most serious accidents are cascade failures. More than one cause, two people speeding perhaps, slippy road, bald tyres. It will be interesting to see what the conclusions are here.

Sad time for all involved though regardless of if you get someone to pin the blame on.

I know someone who runs nearly bald tyres. What advice should I give him?

When he is at work, wait until it starts raining and phone him and tell him his house is on fire.

That puts innocents (like me and you) at risk.

Advice will probably be futile. Better to thrust a knife through the sidewall of each bald tyre, thus ensuring swift replacement with rubber enjoying a somewhat deeper pattern. You may lose an acquaintance but you may have saved lives.
