The secret of ads for furniture is that they hire small actors.

Didn’t Hollywood make a film about couches and tables that turned into giant warriors intent on saving the planet from other evil bits of self morphing intergalactic object d’arts ? Transgenderformers? Ikeabots? Something like that.

Most of these do not “save” space. They instead merely “hide” things in other spaces that would not have to exist if it weren’t for this furniture.

Murphy beds are not a particularly new idea. They do open up floor space when they are stowed, but if you’re using that floor space for anything else, you need to find someplace to store it when they are opened.

I wonder how long before that “accordian” chair would pinch someone’s naughty bits and get a good lawsuit?

Material choices for much of the rest seem rather lightweight for most of the applications. How many times can one use them before they have to be replaced?

And those complex mechanisms surely will work properly for years without any problems.

Looks a lot like what one would expect from universities these days!

Space saving ideas? Not all of them. If you have a spare 10 feet or so under your sitting room floor with room to house all the electronic gizmos needed to lower and raise a dining-room suite and a means to descend/ascend (a staircase?!) to access the same for maintenance as and when, then you already have the makings of a dining room!
