Aretha had a great voice and was apparently a real character.

Hmmmm. A fine career. Many quite melodic songs to her credit. But rather let down by that wish-we-were-spared scene in the Blues Brothers where she screetched her way through a seriously insulting and misandric display for which she deserved the slap – rather than Respect – that you wanted to give me before I even gave an opinion on the other recent piece.

Like you, I was never a great fan of Aretha’s, preferring both Dionne and Patti.

That said, she had a wonderful voice and her death is yet another link to my youth broken.

    May she rest in peace.

I loved the bluesy, Bachy passage on My Baby Just Cares For Me. Deelish.
