James, I’m sure you will draw close parallels with the Soviet Union – the ever present statues, monuments & pictures of the “Great Leaders”, the no expenses spared buildings in the capital, etc. But having watched Michael Palin’s two part visit recently, and another shorter one last night on CH4, as soon as you head outside the city limits a completely different aspect presents itself. Terrible roads, shanty towns, and fields full of people working their crops by hand. The people appear to have great hopes for re-unification with South Korea (no doubt part of Fat Boys propaganda), but as the guy last night observed, it’s difficult to see how this can happen as long as the North is a country of such extreme contrasts.

I would posit that it could happen VERY quickly if the Deep State would let President Trump govern. The Norks clearly have people capable of building Pyongyang. They have a well disciplined military that could be used to build out their country – initially by distributing aid to the hinterlands, followed by actual construction of roads and buildings. The manpower is there, and used to working. Unlike most residents of Africa, for example. Properly designed aid, once the Norks give up their nukes, could bring the nation up to at least 2nd world status within 5 years. But the Norks have no incentive to change their ways as long as the Communists are running the US government.
