    The operas are too long for me but the overtures contain most of the best bits, anyway – sort of cliffs notes music. Just relaxing and enjoying it.

    He had some wonderful moments – and some dreary quarters of an hour. It’s no wonder AH went a little bonkers listening to this stuff.

    Although I love opera, I’ve never really got into Wagner but I find this one hour version of the eighteen hour ring cycle extremely entertaining.

    It’s just the orchestral bits – no singing – and obviously it’s very curtailed but it does show how well the old bastard could write music.

    I sat through 4 hours of die Valkyre last year and while lots of it was interesting and some of it was entertaining, there were large parts I just found boring.
