While I do not agree with the political views of Anna Soubry, I do believe she should have been better protected by the Police officers present.
Unless the law has changed since my day, section 5 of the Public Order Act allows a Police officer to issue a warning for behaviour or words likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress. To continue this action after the warning, can lead to arrest. A few words from the coppers on duty to this effect, could have prevented this from happening.
However, there is a rumour that this was engineered to make Soubry seem like a victim of verbal thuggery and thus gain sympathy and support for her. Only now are the Remoaners demanding protection, yet have done or said little, or nothing, when Brexit supporters, and their families, were hounded and insulted by ranting mobs. Soubry was strangely quiet, as were the rest of her ilk, when Jacob Rees Mogg’ s children and Nanny were targeted, or Nigel Farage and his family. How many such instances of (alleged) fake news will we have to put up with?
