Closet Deep State versus Open Deep State

… with possible turquoise deep state in the wings – ignores the elephant in the room.

Two headlines:

Dominic Raab eliminated from the contest as Rory Stewart’s support surges [Telegraph]

And:

Rory Stewart’s leadership bid in chaos as he finishes LAST in major Tory members poll [Express]

Political class at odds even with Tory membership – of course, their rules say the membership vote can be ignored.

Guido on today:

  • Boris: 126 (114)
  • Hunt: 46 (43)
  • Gove: 41 (37)
  • Rory: 37 (19)
  • Saj: 33 (23)
  • Raab: 30 (27) ELIMINATED

Hunt’s still the challenger despite TUA noise. Commenter at Guido’s:

How much more evidence do we need that the Tory party is a fanatically Remain organisation

The only one guaranteed to take us out eliminated and 116 votes are cast for Remain voting MPs.

Worst of all, they keep in a deranged Walter Mitty making-it-up-as-he-goes-along teenage eurozealot, with the aim of damaging Boris enough in tonight’s debate that he lacks the strength to deliver Brexit.

They are eurofanatics.

    I am puzzled.

Why do not the Tory Party MPs have a single election for the 2 people they are going to recommend their national membership choses between. This done by the Single Transferable Vote (STV) where each MP votes by ranking all the candidates (or as many as they choose to).

Then the whole issue could be over in a day of voting, after a mere few days of husting.

The only answer I can come up with to explain the much drawn out process is that it allows the MPs to sell, posture, preen, bribe – of each other, for giving/receiving favour. So not much benefit for Tory Party members, nor for the Nation and/or its Electorate, as a whole.

    Best regards

Naturally not in the interests of the nation.
