Defenceless on too many fronts

The only good aspect to the country being relatively defenceless is that every other western nation is also relatively defenceless:

A Royal Navy warship raced to help a British oil tanker that was captured by Iran last night but arrived ten minutes too late, a defence source revealed today. HMS Montrose, which was patrolling the Persian Gulf, was forced to do a U-turn when it received orders to assist the UK-flagged Stena Impero, which had been seized by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Ministry of Defence released [a] photo of HMS Montrose warding off Iranian Revolutionary Guard speedboats which harassed the UK-flagged tanker British Heritage on July 10.

It comes after critics questioned why last night’s oil tankers were not escorted by warships amid ongoing tensions with Iran Iran has been warned it faces ‘serious consequences’ after the government held an emergency COBRA meeting following the seizure of two British oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.

Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt branded Tehran’s actions as ‘completely unacceptable’ after heavily-armed gunships intercepted the Stena Impero and the Medsar after 4pm yesterday.

Words, words, words.

Fears were raised that the Iranian authorities were trying to seize a UK ship in retaliation for the detention of the Grace 1 tanker. The Iranian ship was detained off the coast of Gibraltar on July 4, officially because it was suspected of violating EU sanctions by carrying a cargo of crude oil destined for Syria. But it is thought the tanker was detained after a US request as part of its crackdown on Iran.

It’s not just the ships and planes but the treachery of the top brass, to add to their historic incompetence. And it’s in every service, down to the police.

Two constructs wrecking efficiency are approved sodomy and women parachuted into where they just should not be, e.g. the bridges of ships.

Then there is the Muslim menace – it’s pretty clear to whom they’re loyal and a perfect example are the two nutters in that squad. 911 was just “some people doing something”, the other one’s tweets leave no doubt:

Then we get to Rotherham and Telford. Nuff said.

Then we get to the human stock – compare the human specimens at Notting Hill to the hardened jihadis – knife through butter.

The perps most certainly need lining up on Tyburn Hill for what they’ve done.

My feeling is that the last thing the UK PTB want to do is intercept any Iranians – they are keeping well out of the way.

They wouldn’t have the strength of purpose to know what to do with them if it did come to a confrontation.

They are following the EU line – let’s be nice to Iran (and they won’t attack us).

It’s very depressing… but then you know that already…

BTW – does anyone here think it is an accident that the Iranians are going after ships flying UK flags? The Iranians surely know that they have a window of rudderless politics going on for weeks – and, of course, a useless defence establishment.

Took the words right out of my keyboard, must have been when I was typing them …

It is fine for Britain to slap their own sanctions on Syria, but before they tried to stop Iran from trading with them someone ought to have informed decicion-makers that they no longer have the capacity to impose their will on everyone else.
It’s like Tonga forbidding Brazil from trading with Venezuela.

Tit for tat. Had it been the Italians wot did the United States bidding it would have been an Italian flagged vessel that was boarded.

Don’t the United States and its allies in the region, have ‘state of the art’ capability all around the straits on land, at sea, in the air, under the sea, in space, in cyberspace to warn ‘all allies’ or even intervene to prevent such things from occurring?

    Stage managed to my mind.

      Stage managed to my mind

I had the same thought. Not sure of the purpose though as none of us can know for sure.
Obvious one is Them trying to provoke conflict of some sort. Their coffers from arm sales and coffins must be a bit depleted. So far Trump not taking the bait – don’t think he will overtly.
Some have said May deliberately sat on her beam end to leave a bit of a sticky one for the next occupier of No 10. A woman scorned.

To what ultimate end is it all?

Ultimate end. That smacks of finality and if this life has shown me anything its process is everything.

My guess though would be its all about keeping fear front and centre in as many minds as possible hence the Iranian flag, photographed in technocrap as always, flying on a British flagged ship few people knew existed until the media started pumping their tales of the expected.

HMS Montrose carries a Wildcat helicopter that can shift a tad faster then the ship. 32 mph for the ship and 180 mph for her Wildcat, apparently.
Well IF Montrose was only ten minutes too late was it really beyond the wit of man, as in the captain, to let the Wildcat loose to prevent the boarding or even possibly just call in an allied jet any one of can move much quicker than even the Wildcat?

But they ARE appropriately diverse, and that is all that really matters.
