    I’m pretty confident that the Disraeli one wasn’t Dizzy. I dare say that many of the others are misattributed too – attributions tend to cling to the famous rather than to the originators.

    Update: a quick google yielded this.

    By the way I discovered the other day that the saying attributed to Wellington, denying that he was Irish, is bogus. It was an insult directed at him by O’Connell.
