    8. You may find that far from capitalism being “woke” it is chameleon-green and busy getting ready to exploit the poor in order to maintain momentum:

“And what does the green energy revolution, wholly dependent on the further plundering of the Earth, actually bring to Africa, where more than 600 million people have zero access to electricity and more than 300 million have no clean sanitation? A solar oven? A toilet? Water filtration? Plumbing? Schools? Health clinics? Hospitals? Answer: the television.

“And just because the business is actually finance, more than it is providing solar products, that doesn’t mean there isn’t ample opportunity to rob African people blind. The price of the basic 24-inch television solar kit when financed is an outrageous 644.88 USD. The cash price is still a whopping 546.61 USD, which is an exorbitant sum for people who exist on $2 (USD) per day. Of course, this price only remains so if the daily payments are made each and every day, ensuring no additional interest or penalties accumulate on top of the original loan amount…”

What the left fail to understand by their blind use of the weasel word Capitalism is that there’s a difference between crony capitalism and free enterprise.

Crony capitalists are tied in with the State, e.g. in P/P ‘partnerships’, faux charities, monopolies, globalism and are basically mafia/communist, no different to in Russia.

Real free enterprise allows small business to flourish, people to have a flutter or follow a project. Hardly the same thing.

I’d have to agree. Now, what to do?

        • October 15, 2019 at 19:23

Ah, the easy ones at the end. Have hot a clue. 🙂

What the left fail to understand by their blind use of the weasel word Capitalism is that there’s a difference between crony capitalism and free enterprise.

The problem with free enterprise/capitalism is that it’s based on greed so it’s always going to lead to corruption and some form of crony capitalism. And will lead to monopolies and cartels and such-like beasties. Small business will never flourish because it will always be engulfed by big business. And in any case small business is often just as corrupt and selfish as big business. Small business is a very major supporter of mass immigration because small businesses hate the idea of having to pay decent wages. It’s a mistake to idealise small business.

Woke Capital reflects the true nature of capitalism – corrupt and greedy.

Free enterprise is like libertarianism – an ideology that can never work in the real world. Because these ideologies are based on a faulty understanding of human nature.

That’s where most political ideologies fail – they don’t take human nature into account. They don’t take account of the Fallen Nature of Man.

“The problem with free enterprise/capitalism is that it’s based on greed ”

          Nope.

It is based on making enough for your family to eat and then some. Greed is what turns it into crony capitalism and that’s where the evil muvvers reside.

But the greed of the left – something for nothing – is also soul destroying.

The issue is about greed and there we get into the seven deadly sins. More in a post.

          • October 16, 2019 at 15:07

Greed is what turns it into crony capitalism and that’s where the evil muvvers reside.

The problem though is that greed is inherent in capitalism. It’s the engine that runs capitalism. Thinking you can have capitalism of any sort without greed is like thinking you can have a cart without a horse.

If we must have capitalism then it must be controlled and that can only be done by government. Only government has the capability to keep the greed under some degree of control and to soften the harmful effects of capitalism.

Every government in the western world believed this until half a century ago. They believed in the mixed economy. A combination of capitalism and state control. There’s nothing radical about it.

If we must have capitalism then we must also have a welfare state. Every government in the western world believed this until half a century ago. There’s nothing radical about it either.

If you want small businesses you must have a degree of state control of the economy. As state control of the economy has weakened small businesses have been to a very large extent squeezed out by giant corporations.

If we want to maintain a civilised society we need more state control and more central planning. Capitalism is like a dog. It has to be trained, otherwise it will become a menace.

This is not radical leftism. This was the consensus view until the 1960s, on the mainstream left and the mainstream right. Back in the days when western society was a civilised society. The beginnings of the disintegration of western society exactly coincides with the rise of free market thinking. This is not a coincidence.

          • October 16, 2019 at 15:14

It’s the engine which runs federalist socialism, it leads inevitably to corruption. The issue with the left is they can only see one half of it. Therefore it’s invalid as a system.

The fundamental flaws in leftism are coercion, mediocratization and failure to allow incentive = unsustainability. Humans are more permanently motivated when able to build up nest eggs but it must be within a rule of law = civilised society.

Robbing anyone who has used his labour productively, in order to pay fatcats and the feckless lazy is ultimately d for doomed.

There is also the question of whether to base the society on growth or enforced equality based on theft.

I got 1/9 because of the holiday destinations. Much prefer a cabin off the beaten track – it was the least bad option. 🙂

I scored zero only because I resisted the temptation to select the remote cabin.

Dfordoom, pray tell, what would you recommend to make the world go ’round? Is there a political ideology you can recommend that is not controlled by or connected to the Fallen Nature of Man?

Years ago I owned a small business. It never occurred to me to not pay my employees whose paycheck was sometimes higher than my partner’s and mine. Also, I do not think it was wrong to want to make a go of something that was a positive addition to our community. We were not corrupt. And I wish I had made an immense amount of money.

We sold it for a small profit after several years…not to a big business. My brother said we should have sold something people needed like toilet paper. Toilet paper is not a good medium for decorative painting, however.

Additionally, we tried to be charitable and contributed to several local charities. I do not think we were unique in giving our time and financial support, at least where I live.

Maybe my small business was too small to count. It was enough for me!

Also, I have a friend who did sell toilet paper and he is very wealthy. Well there you go. I should have listened to my brother.

The best you can hope for is an ideology that won’t lead you to complete disaster, which is where neoliberalism is leading us. And a government that offers at least a moderate amount of stability.

The Chinese, having abandoned communism, are gambling on capitalism with a degree of central planning and state control to maybe ameliorate some of the worst excesses of that capitalism. And an authoritarian government to offer the stability. I have no idea if it will work in the long term. At the moment it seems to be working slightly better than other approaches.

In addition, Woke Capitalism is an imbecilic manufactured fake term used to fool imbecilic manufactured and fake people who think they are Woke which is really imbecilic and fake.

    The thing is….E V E R Y B O D Y knows it is fake, unless they are super duper imbecilic.

To my way of thinking it would be a dandy idea if Woke gave it a rest and went back to….nigh nigh!
