Dredge or slow the flow?

Dredging the rivers/dykes removes the silt/pebbles making it deeper and wider. Putting the spoil back on the banks makes them higher and allows eels etc to get back in the river. It clears the water for fish. Allows boats to use it. This stops flooding, EU laws are rubbish.

Nothing to do with the EU Dorothy. Dredging only works in a very limited range of situations. Elsewhere it is damaging environmentally, and often counter-productive. Much better to slow the flow of water off the land. This is objective guidance:
