On the local front, the Beeb is hard at the doom-mongering on Cv, wanting the lockdown at least semi-permanent, while the real disaster is jobs, particularly for men in traditional fields.

    1. While stationed in West Berlin with the British Army in the late 70’s, we had the radio programmes of the British Forces Broadcasting Service and the television of American Forces Network. AFN utilised the services of a Ssgt Linda Arnold of the US Air Force as their main weather girl. Her greatest claim to fame was to stand in front of a map of Europe, pointing to the middle of Spain and say, “And here in Copenhagen, it’s 27 degrees.”
After that, the AFN weather reports, often with similar geographical errors, became cult viewing and Linda a local celebrity, even being our guest at a Sgts Mess function, though there was some surprise she found her way there. If only affordable VCRs had been around then.
