Das Boot – this is what we’re working on right now

Dinghy is 10’10” long.  Mother ship 41′, minus appendages.

Headroom 6 foot one and a half, draft 2’9″.

The full keel is done upside down first, joined, glassed, painted, turned back up, frames are internal cabin walls, up to waterline only at this stage.

For each wing, hull is tipped on its edge, painted, tipped the other way and done.

Brought back to vertical and female mould jammed in flush with hull either side, joined beneath keel.  When we want to move the moulds, unscrewed and shifted.

When we looked at the build in the yard, realised there were too many issues with the cat.

Have you ever made a model
And what will fill the keel?
    Well done.

65 polyethylene sandbags @ 15 kg = 2145 lbs + 100 x 10L water = 2200 lbs. Sandbags fit in keel along 34 feet. Water goes above either side of centre walkway. Might not use all containers.

Hull est. 8288 lbs + 2145 lbs + 2200 lbs = 12633 lbs. Ballast is about 34% of total displacement. That might be dropped back to 29%, need to be on the water to see.

      Model, no. It works.
